India Post begins gold coin sale in Kolkata

KOLKATA: India Post has extended its scheme of selling gold coins through the post offices to Kolkata.

The 24K coins are available in denominations of 0.5gm, 1 gm, 5 gm and 8gm and come packed in a sealed cover. They have been certified by Valcambi, Switzerland.

The coins are available in the following post offices; Alipur head post office; Barabazar head post office; Bidhannagar CC Block sub post office; Park Street head post office and Kolkata GPO.

To begin with only these five city offices will sell coins. The department plans to make available the services in other post offices too in near future.

India Post had launched the scheme of selling gold coins in association with the World Gold Council and Reliance Money on October 15, 2008. To begin with, the scheme was available in Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Gujarat. The popularity of the scheme has forced India Post to extend it to other states too.
