NEW DELHI: The Royal Canadian Mint has launched its first collector coins for 2009, including Cn$100, CN$200 and CN$300 face value gold issues.
A 2009 CN$300 gold coin features the Yukon coat of arms, officially granted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1956 and celebrates the province’s role in one of the world’s greatest gold rushes.
Just 1,000 of the coins have been minted, priced at CN$1,659.95. A new 22-c $200 gold coin has been minted in the historical commerce series, commemorating the opening of Canada’s first commercial coal mine in Port Morien, Cape Breton, in 1720.
The mint’s latest numismatic offering also includes a gold coin marking the tenth anniversary of Nunavut, Canada’s newest territory and depicting the faces of an Inuit elder, adult and youth.
Based in Ottawa, the Royal Canadian Mint is responsible for the minting and distribution of all circulation coins in the country.
